Rothko in Abstraction…

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Red, red, red.

Red on black
red on white
red on canvas.

Red on red,
in red,
embedded
in Rothko.

Red, red, red.

Four color red

at each terrifying
edge of the world,

immutably positioned,

expressing
capricious, dialectic
arbitration,

ambivalence of soul

torsion and torture

agony and acrimony.

Tragedy
ecstasy
doom.

Every might
fallen to
the sinew,

dripping with a
thousand reds,

draped in
a hundred
blushes.

“Nothing is fine!”
“Nothing be well!”

Watch.
Rip your ribcage
from its fleshy
cave.

“Feel and be human
like a real, living
person.”

Well Rothko,
not all of us
can gather
quite so much
from the red and black
in a well painted
box,
but your insanity
suits me just
fine.

FREE VERSE THAT IS GRITTY and BARE…
The duality of realism and the mystery of human experience is found through individual experience, diversity of thoughts and emotions. It is felt and shared through poetry’s unique storytelling, in no-nonsense, unvarnished honesty.

KILLS POETRY Vol. 2
by: Roman Newell

Synopsis
Kills Poetry  is an assorted collection of verse that spans three years. Carrying no blatant theme, this five volume collection services a variety of topics drawn from the author’s life experiences, and wastes no time cutting to the marrow of the human experience. As its name suggests Kills Poetry is gritty, bare, hard-biting free verse that identifies stubborn moments of joy during the best and worst of times.
